Sitting at your desk for too long? Take a yoga break in your chair.
While this might not feel like the most ideal way to get your body moving, it’s better than the alternative.
I’m guessing you’re familiar with the alternative.
Spending all day sitting, moving your fingertips over keys and buttons, but not moving the rest of your body much.
Sounds kind of boring. And uncomfortable.
I love movement.
Whether it’s on my mat or in my kitchen or in the shower or in a chair.
Movement is my medicine.
I find movement to be both healing and empowering.
Grounding and energizing.
Movement can improve your physical health, as well as your mental health.
And while movement in a chair might not feel like the real deal, that’s just your head getting in the way of sweet moves that could make your day 100% better.
You might be thinking that chair yoga is gentle yoga and you’re not a gentle sort of a yogi.
I feel you mostly because I don’t see myself that way either and had eschewed chair yoga for that reason.
Truthfully, I hadn’t considered a chair-based practice to be anything other than gentle.
And while there is absolutely nothing wrong with gentle yoga or chair yoga, not all chair yoga has to be gentle.
It’s all in how you use the chair.
I created this yoga break in your chair practice because I found myself needing a movement break on a day that I also needed to work at my computer for a few hours.
Not my standard and still occasionally necessary.
So I tried with a few poses that I could do with the support of the chair that actually gave me an energy boost.
Then I put them all together into one quick flow.
And now, in less than 10 minutes, you can take a yoga break in your chair that will make your body feel better than it did before.
What’s cool about this series of poses is that you can turn them up for a more energizing and dynamic flow or you can scale it back, move more slowly, and simply get a really sweet stretch. Yogis choice.
You game to try?
